The term slice is used to describe the flight of a golf ball when it curves from left to right for a right handed player, and from right to left for a left handed player. It is the most common ball flight error in the game and the one shot I spend most of my time correcting with new students. In this video I will show you how to fix your slice.
I have found the main reason people hit the is shot is due to a lack of understanding about what swing mechanics produce the shot and thus the best way to go about correcting this ball flight. In this video I explain what is happening with the club face and swing path and how they effect the ball flight, as well as some drills you can use to straighten out your own ball flight.

let me start off saying you are one of the best online teachers i have ever seen.
i’ve learned so much from watching every one of your videos.
my question is: what is the proper ball position? would it be center for all of the irons or do you recommend different positions for different clubs.
thank you,
tony
Thank you for your kind words Tony. Glad to hear my videos have helped your golf game.
The ball position can vary slightly from player to player. My goal is to help the player control the low point of their swing and adjust the ball position slightly to fit the players swing shape. As a simple guideline though, the wedges should be played in the middle of the stance and as you work up through the clubs the ball position will move further forward in the stance until the driver is played level with the left instep (for a right handed player).
Hope that helps and all the best with your golf game.

Very well explained Derek,
Would I be right in saying that keeping the shoulders square /level and maintaining a consistent spine angle can help to eliminate the golf slice as well?
Cheers
Glad you liked the video Troy.
Delaying the opening of the shoulders in the downswing, and thus having them less open at impact, along with maintaining spine tilt, will tend to produce a more in to out swing path. Anytime you can alter the swing path to be more in to out you will decrease the opportunity to hit a slice.
All the best
Derek
Great video, very informative
