How to Play a Lob Shot

Have you always wanted to know how to play a lob shot? To be able to play high, soft shots around the green that stop quickly once they land on the green? The lob shot is an extremely useful shot to have in your repertoire and can save you many shots. Too many players are scared to play this shot for fear of hitting the ground first and dumping the ball only a few yards in front of them, or even worse, thinning the ball over the green into even worse trouble.

In this video I show you how simple it can be to play high, soft lob shots. With a little practice you will be the envy of your playing partners hitting lob shots over bunkers and close to hole on a regular basis.

  1. Hi Derek, I hope all is well with you and that you and your family have made a home for yourselves in Houston.
I enjoy your videos and am a regular viewer, and have been since I was your student at Lake of Isles.
I have a question regarding the lob shot. how does one aim the lob shot? The face is open so the face is pointing right, and you said move your body slightly to the left. Where is the target line? Is it perpendicular to the club face? Is it parrallel to the open feet or somewhere in between?
    Thanks, Peter

    1. Good to hear from you Peter. We have settled in and are enjoying all that Houston has to offer.

To answer your question – the target line is between the alignment of the body and aiming of the club face.

Hope that helps and all the best with your golf game.
